Authority And The Tallit

One of the most difficult messages to teach/preach is that of Kingdom Authority. Everybody wants Kingdom blessings with very little understanding

of Kingdom Authority.

Perhaps a less “boxy” and certainly more palatable approach to teaching Kingdom authority is that of “covenant relationships”. Certainly a man outside of God’s covenant has no Godly authority. I would like to attempt to merge these two streams of thoughts as I believe one cannot exist without the other.

Numbers 15:37-41 KJV  “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  (38)  Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their  garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:  (39)  And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:  (40)  That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.  (41)  I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.”

The origins of the first national flag of modern day Israel came from the Prayer Shawl. Interestingly, the real National Emblem of Israel could be said to be  the Prayer.

The sole function of the garment of the prayer shawl is to hold the 4 fringes.

The Hebrew word for FRINGES is Tzitzit:

FRINGES H6734   tsîytsith   tsee-tseeth' Feminine of H6731; a floral or wing like projection, that is, a fore lock of hair, a tassel: - fringe, lock.

These Tzitzit were to be worn in the the BORDERS of the four cornered garment. Deut 22:12

BORDERS H3671 kânâph   kaw-nawf' From H3670; an edge or extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, (of a garment or bed clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle: -  + bird, border, corner, end, feather [-ed], X flying, + (one an-) other, overspreading, X quarters, skirt,  X sort, uttermost part, wing ([-ed])

“put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:” Numbers 15:38

BLUE SPEAKS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD which is really a euphemism for the AUTHORITY of God.

Rabbinical instructions on the FRINGE (tzitzit):

Each Tzitzit has 8 strings  -   8 is the number of covenant

on the 8th day a Hebrew boy is circumcised

          Jesus was circumcised LUKE 2:21

Each Tassel has 5 knots    -   5 is the number for GRACE

Already we see the wonderful symbolism through numbers!

Each Hebrew letter has a numeric value, giving each Hebrew word a numeric value. Thereby making each Hebrew word a potential exciting adventure. That is why we need to stop and think when we hear that there were 12 spies, tribes, apostles, baskets of fragments, and gates.

       Tzitzit numerical value is 600 … plus 5 knots … plus 8 strings   = 613 commandments or

Mitzvah which is the total number of commandments within Judaism.

Between each knot there are a number of twists or wrappings.

Between each of the first 3 knots are 7, 8, and 11 wrappings which total 26 = JEHOVAH – the numerical name of God is contained within these wrappings (TETRAGRAMA)

That may help explain (Revelation 19:16) “and he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDSD OF LORDS

--- the prayer shawl touches the thigh and it’s on His Robe.

Between the last two knots there are 13 wrappings are found which represent numerically ACHAD which means GOD IS ONE.  THE SHEMA   Dueteronomy 6:4

The total number of wrappings are 39 are 39 … which represents healing … Jesus was beaten with 39 stripes … historians tell us according to Roman law they could only flog a prisoner 40 times … if they went over the prison (if he lived) was allowed to flog the Roman guard doing the flogging … so they would always stop at 39!

Isaiah 53 says “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Malachi 4:2 says “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing  in his wings;3671 and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

Notice the Hebrew word H3671 kânâph   kaw-nawf' for WINGS.

SAME WORD USED FOR “THE BORDERS” IN NUMBERSIN NUMBERS

Psalm 17:8 says “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,3671

Again, notice the Hebrew word used, H3671.

With that as our foundation and an understanding that every Jew would be aware of the covenant commandment by God to wear this garment and also possess the understanding of its true meaning let’s move forward to how it applies to Authority and Covenant. When a Jew covers himself with the Prayer Shawl it is symbolic of one coming under the authority of God and implies a delegated authority. Every Jewish male, at his death has the four Tzitzit (Fringes) ceremonially removed from his prayer shawl and passed on to his son. The deceased is wrapped and buried in this garment.

TO REMOVE OR DAMAGE ANY ONE OF THE FOUR TZITZIT IS TO INVALIDATE THIS DELEGATED AUTHORITY.

EXAMPLES OF THE TZITZIT SYMBOLIZING GOD’S AUTHORITY

KING SAUL – NOT UNDER AUTHORITY…AUTHORITY REMOVED (COVENANT BROKEN)

1Samuel 15:26-28 “And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel. (27) And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt3671 of his mantle, and it rent. (28)  And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine, that is better than thou.

        SKIRT   H3671   kânâph   kaw-nawf'

From H3670; an edge or extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, (of a garment or bed clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle: -  + bird,  border, corner, end, feather [-ed], X flying, + (one an-) other, overspreading, X quarters, skirt, X sort, uttermost part, wing ([-ed]).

It is clear that King Saul tore Samuel’s “BORDER” of his garment which based on Numbers 15 held the Tziztiz which symbolizes God’s Authority, uthority, Name, Kingdom, Healing, Covenant, and Oneness.

RUTH – BRING ME UNDER YOUR AUTHORITY (COVENANT AUTHORITY)…Boaz is a type of Christ.

Ruth 3:9 “And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt3671 over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

        SKIRT   H3671   kânâph   kaw-nawf'

From H3670; an H3670; an edge or extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, (of a garment or bed clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle: -  + bird, border, corner, end, feather [-ed], X flying, + (one an-) other, overspreading, X quarters, skirt, X sort, uttermost part, wing ([-ed]).

Again, Boaz a type of Christ brings Ruth under God’s Authority, Name, Kingdom, Healing, Covenant, and Oneness.d Oneness.

KING DAVIDA MAN UNDER COVENANT AUTHORITY (A MAN AFTER GOD’S HEART)

1Samuel 24:4 “And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt3671 of Saul's robe privily.

In much the same way as King Saul “rent” Samuel’s Tzitzit off his garment David cut off Saul’s Tzitizit thereby he MINIMIZED, MARGINALIZED, Saul’s authority as a man made in the image of God and his God given authority as KING.

So what saved King David from the same fate as King Saul? I suggest that in “seeing” what he had done unto King Saul David immediately repented and set things right.

Let us remember the expressed intent of the Lord in initiating this covenant garment:

Numbers 15:39  And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:

WOMEN WITH ISSUE OF BLOODFRINGE BENEFITS

Luke 8:44 “Came behind him, and touched680 the border2899 of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood staunched.

         AND TOUCHED   G680   haptomai   hap'-tom-ahee

Reflexive of G681; properly to attach oneself to, that is, to touch (in many implied relations): - touch.

         BORDER   G2899   kraspedon   kras'-ped-on

Of uncertain derivation; a vation; a margin, that is, (specifically) a fringe or tassel: -  border, hem.
